TMC Parents and Guardians,
It is hard to believe that today is the last teaching day of September, the month has gone by fast. Student routines are well set, and extra-curricular activities are in full swing. As our fall team sports are starting up their game play (Soccer and Basketball) I want to share a few reminders. When our teams visit other schools for league games or tournaments it is the expectation that student-athletes follow the same school rules and represent TMC as positive role models. If students are going to other schools to watch the games as fans, they also need to follow these expectations. Some schools for basketball will not let in students to watch (non-players) unless they are with a supervising adult.
For all spectators it is important to be respectful towards the officials. Some of the officials are students themselves (ie. Scorekeepers at basketball games). If you have a concern about an athletic event (officiating, style of play, sportsmanship), you can reach out to your coach or to me directly and we will work with the other school or the official to address your concern. In these cases, it is always important to remember the 24-hour rule that is commonly used in sports.
I think this is also a good time for parents to talk to their students about social media and group chats. With students returning to school their social media presence and online chatting increases, which increases the possibility for inappropriate online behavior, please take the time to review appropriate conduct online when they are outside the school. Many times, inappropriate online behavior comes back to school, however it is difficult for the school to address when it is happening after school hours. The best advice I can give is for students to not be part of any group chats.
Today is also Ms. Cooks last day as she will be going on Maternity Leave. Ms. Thomoson will be joining our staff and taking over Ms. Cook’s classes.
In addition, in case you did not get the message the Healthy Hunger order for October 2 was cancelled last week.
Have a great weekend,
Chad Flaman
