School is a work place for students and teachers. Young people should dress in a manner that is appropriate for this environment. Some current fashion may be inappropriate for the school setting and students are asked to use good judgment when choosing school attire.

Students at Twelve Mile Coulee School are expected to adhere to reasonable standards in dress and grooming which reflect the school's purpose as a place of learning and a place of work. The following guidelines should help students in their selection of appropriate dress for school:

  • Safety and health - footwear must be worn at all times; special safety clothing may need to be worn (gloves, goggles, aprons, etc.) as required in CTF Construction, Science Labs or Physical Education Courses.
  • Respectful attire appropriate for a place of learning and work - clothing must not display inappropriate or offensive language, slogans or messages (including gang or drug or alcohol related connotations). The Calgary Board of Education has stated that the school has the authority to require any student with unsuitable attire to return home to change before being admitted to classes.

Clothing that advertises the use of drugs or alcohol, makes sexual inferences or innuendo or that has crude language, is not acceptable. Students who do not follow the recommended dress guidelines will be asked to put on alternative clothing, and in some cases, may be asked to go home and change after their parents have been contacted.
