TMC Digital Citizenship and Digital Devices- Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)
All Digital Devices are Stored in Lockers During Class Time
All students must keep cell phones and all digital devices in their lockers during class time and during class changes, unless they have explicit permission from their teacher or a TMC Staff member to use the specific device in class to support their learning.
Digital Device Use During Breaks
Students may appropriately and ethically use cell phones and digital devices before classes, during nutrition break and lunch break, and after school.
Respect for Privacy
In respect of everyone's privacy, taking photos/videos is strictly prohibited within the school, unless part of a learning project and with teacher permission. For similar reasons, digital devices are never to be used in washrooms or change rooms.
Communication Between Parents/Guardians and Students
Should parents/guardians or students need to contact each other during school hours, students will need to use a classroom or office phone. Parents/guardians are asked to refrain from calling or texting their child during school hours. Urgent messages may be called in to the office and we will forward these on to the student.
CBE Administrative Regulation 1062 – Responsible Use of Electronic Information Resources
https://cbe.ab.ca/GovernancePolicies/AR1062.pdf
CBE Students and Staff are expected to follow the expectations for the Responsible Use of Electronic Information Resources. This means that students are to use ethical and respectful behaviour when conversing or posting material, and should not disclose or post confidential, personal or sensitive information pertaining to themselves or other persons. This includes accessing or sharing inappropriate materials, online conflict or bullying, taking or sharing inappropriate video or photos, sharing inappropriate material on social media, etc.
Consequences for Inappropriate Use of Devices
- If a student is found using a device inappropriately or without permission during school hours, the device will need to be surrendered to the TMC Staff member and the student will be permitted to collect it at the end of the day from the staff member. The Teacher or Staff Member will inform the parents/guardians.
 - Should inappropriate use occur again, parents/guardians will be contacted and the device will be returned through the parents/guardians. The school reserves the right to prohibit a student to bring a personal device to the school if persistent, inappropriate use occurs. The student may lose the privilege of bringing a digital device to school for a period of time (a month, a semester or the remainder of the school year), and this may include having your CBE access restricted as well.

Digital Citizenship
All members of our school community are expected to be good digital citizens who demonstrate respect, responsible behavior and overall good character when using technology and/or engaging in online activities. The use of technology is an integral part of teaching and learning at our school. Teachers and students use digital technologies to access information, communicate ideas, and demonstrate fundamental understandings. Students are expected to use our computer network and digital learning tools to engage in activities that facilitate meaningful and authentic learning experiences. By utilizing digital devices, students and parents agree to our Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) for Electronic Devices and Networked Information Resources.
Student Digital Citizenship Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)
This agreement is part of the CBE Digital Citizenship Process. Students must agree to this AUP to:
- be compliant with Administrative Regulation 1062 – Responsible Use of Electronic Information Resources
 - use CBE owned devices at school
 - connect to the CBE wireless with their own personal devices.

Digital Citizenship at the CBE
Digital citizenship is about using technology and participating in digital environments. It is key to helping our students learn to use available technology responsibly in the classroom and beyond. Our school has a Digital Citizenship Plan that is updated annually, addressing how we work to build a community where we live and work together as digital citizens.
Visit the CBE website to learn more about how we support students to develop online safety skills and be good digital citizens.
Personal Mobile Devices
Student personal mobile devices are limited or restricted at all schools, unless required for health or medical needs, to support specialized learning needs, and for educational purposes. Learn more about our BYOD (bring your own device) rules.
Web Filtering & Social Media
Inappropriate or unsafe content may be blocked to provide a safe environment: some content is blocked for all users, and other content may be suitable for older students but not for younger ones. Student access to known social media platforms is blocked on school networks and school devices for all grade levels.
