Technology Used for Learning at the CBE
Digital technologies are changing the way we deliver educational programs to our students. We use a variety of technology tools to support and personalize each student’s learning. Tech tools include hardware (such as laptops, iPads, iPods) and software (like G Suite for Education, and D2L). Visit the CBE website for more information on some of the CBE-wide digital technologies.
- Brightspace, by Desire2Learn (D2L), is an online environment available to all our staff and students for collaboration, communication, organization and assessment. It is also the virtual classroom for the online programs offered through CBe-learn, the CBE’s online learning school. For assistance with sign in issues and more, go to the technical support site.

- Iris: a web-based teaching and learning application consisting of student learning plans, learner profiles, resource library and teacher and administrator workspaces.

- Gmail & Google Workspace for Education: an online space to create documents, presentations and websites wherever internet access is available. It is solely for teacher and student-created work, and not for student records, grades, demographics or other such information. For assistance with login issues and more go to the technical support site.

- eLibrary: an online catalogue for all CBE school libraries (learning commons) with detailed information on books, DVDs and other resources that are available to borrow and online resources offered by Calgary Public Library and others. It is available to parents/guardians, students and staff.

- SchoolMessenger: our communication tool that allows schools to easily and securely send email, phone and text messages to parents / guardians. To receive messages from our school, be sure to subscribe. To change the email address or phone number where you receive your messages, contact our school. Add our school email address to your address book or "safe senders list" to make sure our messages don't go to your spam folder.

- Learning Commons: the concept of the traditional library is changing to include technology, online tools and spaces for collaboration and exploration.

Student Owned Electronic Devices & Wireless Access
Students can access our school wireless using student owned personal electronic devices at our school. Students may use their own devices at their teacher’s discretion to personalize their learning in the classroom. The use of personal devices by students with the guidance of parents and teachers will assist in addressing individual student preferences and needs for learning.
Students are expected to be good digital citizens who demonstrate respect, responsible behaviour and overall good character when using personal or CBE devices. All students are expected to follow school and classroom guidelines for acceptable use.
Students are reminded that they are responsible for the safety and security of any digital device they bring to school. As with any personal belonging that a student brings to school, the school cannot be responsible for electronic devices that are lost, stolen or damaged.
Electronic/digital devices (cell phones, computers, cameras, etc.) are not permitted in change rooms or washrooms at any time.
Responsible use of cell phones and other digital devices during the nutrition and lunch breaks are also at the discretion of school staff.
Students are also reminded that all digital recordings, audio or visual, may not be shared or distributed via the Internet or through social networking sites, without the written permission of those people recorded. These restrictions are in place for all students, staff and visitors to the school.
Our Wireless Network
Students, staff and guests can learn how to get connected to our Wi-Fi on the CBE Wireless page.
Bringing Your Own Device to School
Students are welcome to bring their personal electronic devices to school as part of a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) or Personally Owned Devices (POD) framework. Students should understand how a device works and how its use supports their learning. All devices are subject to approval by the school and teacher. Students are responsible for any devices they bring to school. The school is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged items.
There is no requirement for students to bring their own device. Students will have access to devices at the school needed to support their learning.
Students must use their device responsibly. You can look on the CBE website for more information on bringing devices to school.
