TMC Families Update - November 21, 2024

Hello TMC Families,

Winter has certainly arrived, and with it, icy conditions. Please take extra care as you enter the school, and rest assured, we are working closely with our school facilitator to reduce as much ice as possible for everyone’s safety.

TMC is collecting gently used or new mittens and hats to support one of our CBE schools who is in need.  This drive will start November 25 and we will deliver the winter gear to the school on December 6, 2024.  Thank you for your support – Grade 8 Leadership

Sports Update:

Basketball: We are in the final stages of the season, with teams working hard to make it to the playoffs:

  • Sr. Girls wrapped up their season on November 18.
  • Sr. Boys completed their season on November 19.
  • Jr. Boys will play on November 21 at Nose Creek.
  • Jr. Girls play on November 25 in the final at 4:00 PM at WD Pratt.

We are so proud of how our teams have represented Twelve Mile Coulee, and we wish them all the best as they compete!

Wrestling: The wrestling season is in full swing. Schedules are available on the TMC website.

Volleyball: After winter break, keep an eye out for volleyball tryouts!

Sports Medicine - First Aid Training: Our Grade 9 Sports Medicine class is currently working towards their First Aid certification. These students will be well-equipped to assist with any unforeseen events during school activities.

Learning & Special Programs:

  • Grade 6 Drama: Our Grade 6 students are enjoying a fantastic drama experience with an artist in residence. Thanks to School Council for funding this initiative. Students are exploring mask work and using body control and minimal words to express themselves in scenes.
  • Grade 8 and 9 Band Camp: Grade 8s and 9s returned safely from their trip to Band Camp at Camp Caroline. Great learning and a wonderful time was had by each and everyone of them despite the cold snowy weather. Students learned from experienced clinicians and will be playing better than every.  For fun they enjoyed an evening at the fire as they watched the snow drift down, what a beautiful site. They also enjoyed an evening in the pool.

Looking Ahead:

  • Teacher Conferences: Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Thursday, November 28, from 4:00-8:00 PM, and Friday, November 29, from 8:30 AM-1:30 PM. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher and discuss strengths and areas for growth. To sign up, please log into your Parent PowerSchool account and click on My Conferences. Please note that Friday, November 29, is a non-instructional day.
  • Grade 7 Social Studies: Our Grade 7 classes will be visiting the Military Museum as part of their study of the War of 1812. They will explore important historical questions, including the role of Chief Tecumseh and how the War of 1812 helped shape Canada’s political boundaries.

December Events:

  • December 5 – Titan Snacks (cobs)
  • December 6-7 – Grade 6s to the Astrodome
  • December 10 – Winter Concert
  • December 19 – Titan Lunch (A&W)
  • December 20 – Last day before Winter Break
  • January 6, 2025 – Classes resume

School Council Updates:

We recently met with School Council Chair, Marty Korba, and Julie Ingraham to discuss the importance of communication and strategies for enhancing it within the school. We also brainstormed ways to bring more fun and engagement to Twelve Mile Coulee. Stay tuned for more information on these initiatives!

The School Council continues to do wonderful work for our students and staff, and we appreciate your support. Please join us for the next School Council meeting on January 9, 2025, at 7:00 PM in the Learning Commons. If you can’t attend, consider supporting the school through fundraising efforts, such as our upcoming casino event or by volunteering.
