Good Afternoon Twelve Mile Coulee Families,

I hope this message finds you well. It's been a busy and exciting week here at Twelve Mile Coulee School (TMC), and I’d like to share some important updates with you. To make it easier to navigate, I’ve broken down the key points below:

1. Getting to Know the TMC Staff

I've spent a great deal of time connecting with staff members in the hallways and classrooms to learn about the grades, subjects, and students we work with. Next week, I will be visiting classrooms to introduce myself to the students as well. I’m looking forward to building relationships with all of our students and staff.

2. School Development Plan (SDP)

Our leadership team has been working on the School Development Plan, which includes both an academic and well-being goal for the school year. These goals will be visible throughout the school, and we will regularly track our progress. We look forward to sharing the full details with you at the January 9, 2025 School Council meeting at 7:00 PM in our school learning commons. If you're unable to attend, the School Development Plan will be posted on our website in December.

3. School Council Meeting Takeaways

At the recent School Council meeting, we gathered some valuable feedback from our families. Many of you expressed a desire for more frequent communication from the school about important events, as well as a wish to make TMC a more welcoming and fun environment for our students. We heard your ideas and are excited to move forward with initiatives that will foster a stronger sense of community.
Please join us for the next School Council meeting on January 9, 2025, 7:00 PM in the Learning Commons. If you cannot attend, you can still support our efforts by getting involved in fundraising activities such as our upcoming casino event or by volunteering. Additionally, information about Healthy Hunger and TMC spirit wear (great for gifts!) - is found on these sites:

4. Professional Development Day – Maatoomsii Pookaiks (Children First)

During our recent Professional Development Day, we focused on several important topics:

  • A review of the CBE’s new Land Acknowledgement.
  • A reflection on how we are supporting Indigenous ways of knowing and being in our classrooms.
  • Connecting our Wellness Goal from the School Development Plan to the work of David Bouchard’s "7 Sacred Teachings." This year, our focus will be on Respect, and we look forward to sharing more as the year progresses.

5. Fall Break Reminder

We are excited to welcome our students back after Fall Break on November 14. I hope you enjoy this time with family and friends!

Thank you for your attention to these updates. I apologize for the length of this message, and in the future, I will aim to share information in smaller, more focused updates.

Wishing you a restful and enjoyable break!

Warm regards,
Patty Numan
