Hello TMC families,

Overall things are moving smoothly here at Twelve Mile Coulee. The one issue we are grappling with is having students leaving class without permission, often and not attending to their learning. Our teachers are working closely with classes to understand the expectations and procedures to ensure our hallways and washrooms are safe for everyone.

These expectations and procedures are:

- Using the washroom between class, at nutrition break or lunch time.

- If necessary, and there will be times when leaving is necessary, ask permission to leave, sign out with name and time then sign back in. We do know we have students who require special accommodations, and we are meeting with each of them to ensure they know the exceptions being provided.

- Students who struggle to comply with the expectations and processes will be provided with individual guidance and plans. These will have parent involvement.

All schools within Alberta are responsible to the expectations of the Alberta Government. Our responsibilities are laid out in the Education Act. Within this document it explains each members responsibility within the learning environment. Each educational jurisdiction interprets these expectations and creates Administrative Regulations to support student success in alignment with the Alberta Government. Our students sometimes believe that we make up these expectations, we don’t but we do enforce them.

Student responsibilities as per the Education Act are:

Student responsibilities 31 A student, as a partner in education, has the responsibility to:

(a) attend school regularly and punctually,

(b) be ready to learn and actively engage in and diligently pursue the student’s education,

(c) ensure that the student’s conduct contributes to a welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning environment that respects diversity and fosters a sense of belonging,

(d) respect the rights of others in the school.

There are other responsibilities, and these are the ones we are focused on. Outside of attending regularly you can see there is an expectation to engage in learning in a positive productive manner. Thus, our expectations for staying in class as much as possible.

Celebration

Congratulations to the Titan Wrestlers. Wednesday January 29 the students spent the day at the divisionals. The results were impressive.

Bronze medalists: Avery and Kalan.
Silver medalists: Ezra, Sawyer, Chase, Zara, Phoenix, Emmy, Sophia, and Jack.
Gold medals: Penelope, Victoria, Radner, Khylen, Aria, Finn, Olivia, Will, Darrell, and Kaelan.
