Happy New Year to each and every one!!
We are so grateful for some time to rest and reconnect with family and friends. The time away has rejuvenated everyone. Which is a good thing as teachers are in the middle of the assessment and reporting process.
Please note that report cards go live as of January 27, 2025 you can access this document through your MyCBE account. You will be able to review the marks and comments regarding each student’s achievement, progress and growth. Each mark assigned on the report card is determined through observations of student learning, conversations with regarding their learning and artifacts collected. The outcomes are a summation of formative and summative assessment for this term.
The marks on the report card at this time of year are an indication of how the student is progressing up to this point. As per the Calgary Board of Education the indicators provide the following information:
1 – Not meeting grade level expectations. If your child is receiving a one there should be ongoing communication regarding plans to support the student’s success for the upcoming term. These plans should include the next best step for the students learning.
2 – Basic understanding of grade level content. Receiving this mark means the student is making progress towards a deeper understanding of topics or processes to support their learning. This is a time to discuss how your child will be supported to achieve future success with learning within the subject.
3- Good understanding of grade level expectations. Student’s receiving this mark have a clear understanding of concepts taught within the subject. These students may advocate for their learning with the teacher to determine next best steps for achievement.
4 – Excellent understanding of grade level expectations. Student’s receiving this mark have a sophisticated understanding of concepts taught so far. Their needs will be addressed on an individual basis to determine how the learning connects to other subject areas.
Communication is an ongoing process here at Twelve Mile Coulee. Many things are changing within the Middle School communities. You will see comments for each core academic area, that states what the student can do, and how we know they are successful within this area. There is also a statement regarding area for growth for each core subject area how this development will be supported in the classroom and/or how this will influence future success.
Please note that you may not see a comment within the CTF courses or Physical Education/Health. This will be a teacher-based decision, determined by the needs of individual students. Please never hesitate to contact your child’s teacher to discuss any questions or concerns you may have. Your child’s success is important to us!
