Dear TMC Titan Students, Parents and Guardians,

At TMC and the CBE, we strive to create a welcoming, caring, respectful, and safe environment for students, staff, and families every day. The CBE strives for all schools to be safe and caring places for all students. I applaud the work that our students and staff do to embrace diversity and make our school one that welcomes and celebrates students from diverse backgrounds, perspectives and beliefs.

On Monday June 3, students are encouraged to wear Pride gear such as rainbows or colourful clothing to show their support and their pride.

June is Pride Month, a time to recognize the pursuit of equality and rights for 2SLGBTQ+ individuals. During Pride Month, we can recognize the valuable contributions individuals of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities have made to history and society. This year, we reaffirm our commitment to creating safe and caring learning and work environments for 2SLGBTQ+ students and staff.

At TMC School, we have honoured and recognized our unique school community throughout the school year with events that provide opportunities to acknowledge and celebrate dates that are significant to students, staff and our community. Some examples include the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Orange Shirt Day, Thanksgiving, Remembrance Day, Bullying Awareness & Prevention Week, Christmas, Black History Month, Valentine’s Day, Random Actos of Kindness Day, Pink Shirt Day, Mental Health Week, Asian Heritage Month, and National Indigenous History Month.

Activities tomorrow may include:

  • acknowledgments in our morning announcements
  • posters and artwork around the school
  • some buddy teams may do art activities around inclusive themes
  • conversations about how we all, students, parent and teachers, need to work to set up welcoming, caring, respectful, and safe learning environments for everyone

Pride Month activities are aligned with Alberta provincial curriculum with a focus on:

  • building positive relationships
  • respect and understanding of different cultures and experiences
  • reducing discrimination

We are working together with students, families, employees, and our communities to build positive learning environments for student success. Every student should have the opportunity to succeed personally and academically regardless of background, identity, or personal circumstances.

I acknowledge that each family and community have unique experiences with different recognitions and celebrations, and any commemorative activities in our schools may be perceived differently. However, classroom-based activities and lessons that promote diversity and inclusion are not subject to exemptions under the Education Act.

As a public school, we strive to create an inclusive, safe, and respectful environment every day for our students, families, and staff. June marks the beginning of Pride Month, a time to recognize the pursuit of equality and rights for 2SLGBTQ+ individuals. During Pride Month, we can recognize the valuable contributions individuals of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities have made to history and society. With students, families, employees and our communities, we are working together to build positive learning environments for student success. Every student should have the opportunity to succeed personally and academically regardless of background, identity or personal circumstances.

TMC has an amazing group of students in our Gay Straight Alliance (GSA), which is a peer support network run by students and supported by school staff. Every student has the right to belong to our GSA. This student group works to promote the principles of:

  • Equity for students with diverse sexual orientations and/or/gender identities;
  • Safe, caring and inclusive spaces for all students;
  • Healthy, respectful environments and relationships to prevent or eliminate bullying and discrimination.

Pride Day at TMC on Monday June 3, 2024
June is pride month! This is a month to celebrate and embrace LGBTQ2S+ people and communities. This month is important to support underrepresented persons within our school community through visibility and celebration, and there will be opportunities for class conversations around the topics of mutual respect, authenticity, safety, hope and joy. On Monday June 3, students are encouraged to wear Pride gear such as rainbows or colourful clothing to show their support and their pride.

Public education and positive community is a shared responsibility. With our Titan students, Titan families, Titan staff and our Tuscany community, we are working together every day to build positive learning environments for student success. TMC will celebrate our third annual Pride Day on Monday June 3, 2024 as we continue to help all members of the TMC community to be learn more about each other and grow in our ability to be kind and supportive of one another, no matter who you are... J

Educationally yours,
Mr. R J
