Dear TMC Titan Students, Parents and Guardians,
Looks like we are seeing warm weather coming but may see some rain as well. Please have your kids dress for the possibly crazy changing weather. Happy May in Calgary, and hopefully we will see some green coming this week!
Hats On for Mental Health Day is Wednesday May 8, 2024
Mental Health Week is May 6 to 12, 2024
As we look ahead to Mental Health Week (May 6-12), it can be challenging to determine the best way to help students tackle topics as critical as compassion and kindness, which are always needed in greater quantities. This year, the theme of Mental Health Week is centered on the healing power of compassion. In a world plagued by suffering, it is important to remember that kindness is equally intrinsic to our humanity.
Every year since 1951, the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) has hosted Mental Health Week and this year marks the 73rd year.
This year, the theme is centred on the healing power of compassion. Links to various resources are below.
As well, Hats On for Mental Health Day is on Wednesday May 8, 2024, so pick an awesome hat to wear and we will be learning about supporting positive mental health.
PE Classes Outside Next Week
Next week TMC PE classes will have less space to run our PE classes. The TMC production of Spamalot will be utilizing both the Main and Aux gyms for the week, leaving us with the Fitness Centre, classrooms, and going outside for PE.
Fingers crossed the weather improves, but there is a good chance that students will head outside if there is some rain. We will avoid activities on the field if it is too wet or slippery and will go on pathway walks around the community. If it is raining too hard we will attempt to find other indoor activities in classrooms, but we will be outside with students in light rain. Please support your students in dressing for the weather.
Spamalot the Musical – May 8 and 9, 2024
There are well over 100 TMC students and staff involved in the cast and crew preparing for this musical phenomenon! I can’t wait to see this, and you can come to see it here at TMC for $15.00. The two performances are Wednesday, May 9 and Thursday, May 10 at 6:30 pm. You can obtain tickets by using the ticket order form attached to this email or by having your student get a ticket order form at the office. Return the order form and your method of payment to the school office and tickets will be issued to your student. Tickets are selling fast!
So come “Find Your Grail,” and, as we all know, what happens in Spamalot stays in Spamalot!
It is going to be amazing to see a TMC Musical once again! Make sure you “Always look on the bright side of life!” (And yes, now that song will be in your head all day…)
LAST DAY! Student Cell Phone Use in Schools – Online Survey
Alberta Minister of Education Demetrios Nicolaides is interested in hearing from teachers, parents, and other staff about student cellphone usage in Alberta schools. You are invited to share your views in an Alberta Education online survey. Feedback will help inform any potential next steps about the future of student cellphone use in schools.
Complete the online survey by Friday, May 3, 2024.
We encourage all staff to provide their feedback to Alberta Education. Information about the survey will be sent through SchoolMessenger to parents and guardians later today.
Educationally yours,
Mr. R J
