Dear TMC Titan Students, Parents and Guardians,

Today the kids had a lovely Spring Fling, even though there was still snow on the ground! A great time was had by our dancing and singing machines in the gym for the Tropical Paradise dance, and other students enjoyed other activities with their grade groups! Old man Rakowski enjoyed the dance too, but he may have had earplugs in… Man, I am getting old… If it was some good metal music playing , it might have been a different story! J

TMC at the Calgary Youth Science Fair (CYSF) – Updated Results

We did not have all of the results on Monday morning from the Calgary Youth Science Fair, so here are our full TMC results. Congratulations to all of the grade 5’s that took projects to the Calgary Youth Science Fair this weekend. All of our TMC projects won awards! Ben and Khylen won a gold medal and the Buckley Family Award for Engineering (wowsers!), Willow and Gwen won an honourable mention award (as they are so honourable!), Aimen and Shreeya had their project on particle theory (how cool is that!) and Mia and Emily with their project on avalanches (hope they did not test that out in the mountains!). Mia and Emily even made it on the news! Great work to all of our TMC groups! You rock!

Education Week – April 15-19, 2024

It Is “Education Week” from April 15-19, 2024. This recognition week gives us the opportunity to recognize the important role that education plays in our society and the remarkable work happening in schools.

This year’s theme is “Learning Uplifts All.” Our strong public education system is uplifted by an extensive community of people that support each other in teaching, learning and working toward an inspired future. Obviously I am a huge proponent of public education, as I believe it sets up our future society to be a positive place and with wonderful citizenship working for a brighter future.

I am very proud of TMC School, of our students and staff members, as well as our School Council and the Tuscany Community that supports each and every one of them. Thank you soooooooooooo much for the roles you play to support education!

Rocky Ridge YMCA Y Mind Program – Free!

Y Mind is a FREE 7-week mental wellness program for teenagers (13-18 years old). The program aims to support and provide resources for teenagers experiencing mild to moderate levels of stress and/or anxiety. Y Mind is grounded on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness and allows participants to learn more about different ways of how to manage their stress and anxiety. This program is facilitated by trained mental health professionals and there will always be two facilitators at each session. We have seen proven results nationally of reduced stress and anxiety related symptoms, increased overall wellbeing, and an increased ability to cope with difficult emotions.

Participants will receive a workbook of all the activities done during the program, so they can review and practice at home. We do provide snacks for participants during the program and meet other individuals experiencing similar feelings. Upon completion of the program, participants would receive a Certificate of Program Completion and a free 2-month YMCA gym membership as improving one's physical wellbeing has shown that it improved mental wellbeing.

Individuals can learn more about our program on our website (https://www.ymcacalgary.org/y-mind-mental-wellness-program) or complete a Formstack request (https://ymcacalgary.formstack.com/forms/ymind_intake_form_ymcacalgary) to sign up for our Information and Intake Sessions.  Students 14 and older can self-register for the program without parental consent as well. Interested individuals can contact our general Y Mind email if they have any questions at ymind@ymcacalgary.org.

Educationally yours,
Mr. R J
