March Mammal Madness – The Big MMM Winners!
Well, it has taken some extra calculating time, but we can finally announce the results of the March Mammal Madness Bracket contest here at TMC.  First, the championship battle featured the Giant Squid and the Great White Shark… It was a fierce battle that was interrupted by dead alligators… (Yes, you read that correctly…) You should check out the Rodent Recap on Youtube if you want to hear about how that happened.  But ultimately the Great White Shark wins the tournament and is the MMM 2024 Champion. Check it out at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjSk3W2A9lk
As for our school results, the leaderboards on the screen are now finalized.  Congratulations to our school champion, Lucy from Grade 9, who correctly predicted the Shark would win it all and has the highest scoring bracket in the school, with a final score of 101 out of 138 possible points, with Sierra M in grade 9 in second  and James J in grade 7 taking the bronze medal, in third place. Thank you to everyone who submitted brackets and participated in our school competition this year!

CBE Precautions for the Solar Eclipse on Monday, April 8
On Monday, April 8, 2024, a partial solar eclipse will be visible in Calgary. The solar event will begin just before noon and conclude by 2 PM, with the maximum coverage occurring at 12:43 PM.
We know that this provides a unique learning experience for students and staff in our schools; however, there can be serious impacts to vision as a result of viewing the eclipse in an unsafe manner.
During this partial solar eclipse on Monday, we would like to invite all students to remain at school during the lunch break. Please send a lunch with your child. If students are not participating in educational activities around the event, TMC Schools will have students will be involved in supervised indoor activities.
If you decide that your child will walk home for lunch on Monday, please discuss with your child not to look at the sun to protect his/her eyes from damage by the solar eclipse.
During a solar eclipse, looking directly at the sun is dangerous. Safe viewing of the eclipse requires wearing specialized glasses or watching through a telescope or solar binoculars that have specialized lenses and should only be performed under the direction of a professional.
For more safety information can be found on the NASA website or from the Canadian Association of Optometrists.
Youth Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) Finals
The grade 9 students and teachers at Twelve Mile Coulee School are getting excited for their YPI Finals! The finals are scheduled for Friday April 12th, 2024 at 10:45 AM. Twelve Mile Coulee School has been participating in YPI for five years, having donated a total of $20,000 to local charities, all based on the research, learning and advocacy of our grade 9 students each year. Parents are more than welcome to come and watch the final 6 presentations, as we will crown the winning presentation for their charity.
